Autumn Equinox was yesterday as the seasonal wheel turns towards winter — the perfect time to read books!
To learn more about tarot, study the classics. Seek tarot archetypes hidden in the pages. Could an aspect of THE MAGICIAN lurk in Oscar Wilde’s A Picture of Dorian Gray? Or is it THE DEVIL?
THE TOWER seems like the card for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. But if you read it, you will see how it’s a classic of Romanticism more suited to THE LOVERS than THE TOWER.
THE HANGED MAN is one tarot card that most people have trouble understanding. The novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe explains the many levels of THE HANGED MAN.
To understand the subtle nuances of the minor arcana Water suit of CUPS, read The Diaries Of Anais Nin.
Not one for novels or diaries? Then enjoy short stories! Spend some time with collections of short stories, such as Best Short Stories by Guy de Maupassant. Each of de Maupassant’s stories can relate to a tarot card. Try to match each story with a card.
The modern Italian author Italo Calvino did just that in The Castle of Crossed Destinies. He illustrated the book with two Medieval European tarot decks that create short stories.
To understand the QUEEN OF SWORDS, read Pushkin’s Queen of Spades, perhaps the best short story in world literature, in Alexander Pushkin, Complete Prose Fiction. (Stanford U Press translation.)
It’s obvious which tarot archetype lives in Tolstoy’s short story The Three Hermits.
Stick with the classics. Find the hidden archetypes as your read. You learn about life, and learn how to better read your tarot cards.

September 19 2017 is a new Moon in Virgo. Earth sign Virgo rules the 6th house of work, health, and service. It will be easier to apply Virgo’s analytical strength and practical powers of discernment because the Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars all in Virgo!
During this lunar month, focus on Virgoan earthly matters of health, finances, being of service, and forwarding your career. The new Moon is an excellent time to begin new projects, so address the area of life that needs the most attention. Health is a priority for balancing body, mind, and spirit.
Love planet Venus and work planet Saturn both trine Uranus to discover new ways of doing things. Under the influence of Venus, it’s good timing to bring new energy into your home during this lunar month, and start making it cozy for winter. The Saturn trine brings a delightful balance of old and new.
The new Moon and Sun square Saturn so projects can take more time than anticipated, even until the end of the year. If there are feelings of overload, negative thinking, or if coworkers aren’t compatible, there’s plenty of time to make necessary changes. Good to learn and observe during this Virgo lunar month.
The ongoing Mercury conjunct Mars brings stamina for mental tasks. But there could be ego conflicts if people become
overcritical with so many planets in Virgo.
2nd EARTH PHOENIX MONTH
This new Moon begins the second Earth Phoenix month in a row, bringing more opportunities for spiritual growth and rebirth. We can create a balance between the material and spiritual worlds. Success is attained by applying Phoenix virtues of diligent work and whole-hearted involvement in tasks. Phoenix correlates to the Western sign Virgo, so pay attention to earthly matters such as your physical health. The spiritual world is more secure when the material realm is organized. Luck is strongest for those born in Phoenix, Ox, Snake, and Dragon years.
September 22 is autumn Equinox, the time of equal day and equal night, and the solar point between summer and winter Solstices. Equinox is time for balance, making today and this weekend the ideal time to take stock of actions so far in this Phoenix year. And time to enjoy the bounty of harvest as autumn begins, and the Sun enters relationship sign Libra. Contact me for your tarot, astrology, or feng shui consultation for autumn.
Happy new Moon,

September 6 2017 is a full Moon in Pisces. Sensitive Water sign Pisces rules the 12th house of spirituality and mysticism. The full Moon conjuncts Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, bringing increased empathy that’s excellent for heart-to-heart talks, and is inspiring for creative artistic expression. People are in touch with emotions, especially feelings that may have surfaced during the recent eclipse.
The full Moon sextiles Pluto for therapeutic conversations, opportunities for transformation in relationships, and hidden truths can be revealed. For some people, this full Moon energy unlocks latent psychic ability, and answers can arrive in dreams.
The full Moon and Neptune are opposite the Sun in Virgo. People could feel strange or odd moods, especially if they become overcritical. Should this occur, strive to balance home with professional life. Fortunately, the Sun trines Pluto to understand motivations, further self knowledge, and develop wisdom.
Mercury conjuncts Mars for increased mental energy and stamina. But there could be ego conflicts and unnecessary fighting. Mercury and Mars trine Uranus bringing a wider scope, new interests, and personal growth. People can break down barriers with their new understanding. And communication will be easier after Mercury retrograde ends on September 5.
Happy full Moon,
