VIRGO correlates to the Chinese sign PHOENIX, also translated as Rooster, Chicken, Cock, or Hen.

SUNDAY AUGUST 28, 2011 is a new Moon in the practical intelligent Earth sign VIRGO. In astrology, Virgo rules the sixth house of health, work, and service to others. Sun, Moon, and Venus are all in Virgo on this new Moon so focus on health, nutrition, finances, and all practical matters.

If communications were problematic during the Mercury retrograde that ended Friday August 26, this new Moon brings opportunities to regain balance. Now that Mercury is direct, new endeavors are favored. Time to put your plans into action.

An attitude of gratitude is perfect for this Virgo new Moon. Good fortune is for all, and is strongest for the earth signs Virgo, Capricorn, and Taurus and those born in Phoenix, Ox, and Serpent years.

Pablo Picasso Self Portrait 1906

Today I went with my friend Eugene to see the Pablo Picasso paintings and sculptures from the National Picasso Museum in Paris that are currently at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The show is fascinating; go if you can. Picasso (1881-1973) was a sexual and passionate Scorpio born in the year of the intense, shamanic Metal Serpent. The numerology of his birthdate Oct 25, 1881 = 17 The Star in Tarot, which reduces to card #8 Strength.

And how strong he was! This Picasso exhibition is full of his many lovers. His painting style changes for each one of them. Here is his masterful Neo-Classical style in this portrait of his first wife Russian ballerina Olga Khokhlava:

Picasso's First Wife Olga

Olga was born in 1891 the year of the Metal Hare, and Hare is easily overpowered by Serpent. While still married to Olga, Picasso met 17-year-old Marie-Thérèse Walter. Ever the Scorpio, Picasso’s relation with Marie-Thérèse was kept secret from Olga — until Olga found out about Marie-Thérèse’s pregnancy. Marie-Thérèse was born in 1909 the Earth Phoenix year. Serpent and Phoenix are highly compatible, and the element Earth is the mother of Metal, meaning that Earth nurtures Metal because Metal ore is extracted from the Earth. So Marie-Thérèse was very good for Picasso. Marie-Thérèse died by hanging herself in 1977, four years after Picasso died. Lovely Marie-Thérèse was the model, muse, and inspiration for many Picasso masterpieces:

While still with Marie-Thérèse, Picasso fell in love with artist Dora Maar in 1936, one year after Marie-Thérèse’s daughter Maya was born. These paintings may seem like Picasso’s Greatest Hits with Women, but the Dora Maar portrait is exceptional:

Picasso's Portrait of Dora Maar

Dora Maar was a creative Fire Sheep born in 1907. But Picasso was far more powerful and left her for art student Françoise Gilot. Françoise gave birth to daughter Paloma and son Claude. Françoise was a strong Metal Phoenix (1921) and was the only woman who ever left him due to his relationships with other woman and his intense abusive Metal Snake nature. I highly recommend her book LIFE WITH PICASSO:

Life With Picasso

Picasso’s final wife Jaqueline Roque was born in 1926, a Fire Tiger who could handle him. His passions never die, as seen in this oil on canvas of Picasso and Jaqueline:

Picasso and his women! Seeing his paintings and sculptures today brought all of them to life once again.

Amidst the women, the nudes, and more women, Picasso will pull genius out of his hat, like this bull head sculpture made of a bicycle seat and handlebars:

Bull Head from Bicycle Seat and Handle Bars

Great great art. I was delighted and inspired.

Aquarius the Water Bearer

Saturday August 13, 2011 is a full Moon in the freedom-seeking, innovative, inspirational Air sign Aquarius the Water Bearer. Aquarius rules the 11th house of Astrology, the house of friends, groups, and social values. So this full Moon is a time to be social. The wider the scope, the better.  If you network and brainstorm new concepts, put into place after Mercury retrograde ends on August 26.

This full Moon can bring inspiration and insights about group dynamics and your role with others. Full Moon inspriation is especially fortunate for the Air signs Aquarius, Libra, and Gemini and those born in Tiger, Dog, and Horse years.

This Aquarian full Moon is opposite the Sun, Mercury, and Venu all in Leo. Aquarius is us, Leo is me. Aquarius is mind, Leo is heart. Strive to add your personal creative stamp within the group, contribute to the higher collective, and take the high road. If you experience conflict between reason and feelings, follow the Venusian influence to make peace and create a good time!
